Personalized Trauma Therapy

Chicago, IL | IFS & Brainspotting

There’s a meaningful difference between a therapist being trauma-informed and being trauma-trained. Trauma-informed care recognizes the ways trauma can shape how you feel, relate, protect yourself, and move through the world. Trauma-trained therapy goes further. It means having specialized clinical training in how to work with traumatic experiences when they show up—not only in your memories, but in your nervous system and body.

Trauma therapy should never feel like being pushed into the hardest parts of your story before you’re ready. You don’t have to remember everything. You don’t have to tell your story perfectly. And you won’t be asked to relive painful experiences simply for the sake of talking about them. My job is to pay careful attention to you—when your system is ready to move closer, when it needs more space, and what helps you stay connected to yourself along the way.

My work is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps us understand the parts of you that learned to stay vigilant, disconnect, shut down, take care of everyone else, or keep going when stopping didn’t feel possible. Rather than treating these responses as something we need to get rid of, we get curious about why they became necessary in the first place. The question begins to shift from “What’s wrong with me?” to “What happened—and what did I learn to do to survive it?”

I’m also a certified Brainspotting practitioner, which gives us another way to work with experiences that talking alone hasn’t quite reached. Brainspotting uses the connection between the brain, body, and visual field to help us gently access places where emotion, memory, or stress may still be held.

You don’t have to force anything here. We notice. We get curious. We follow your nervous system rather than fighting it. Over time, experiences that once felt overwhelming, fragmented, or too close can begin to feel like something that happened to you—rather than something your body is still living through.
